Building Self-Esteem

This exercise is for helping us to see a more positive picture in moments of unhappy times.

Are you feeling down in the dumps and not sure why?    Or, has something happened that has pulled you into a sombre mood?  Things can happen in life out of the blue which we have no control over.

Some common examples are:

A disappointment because we didn’t passed an exam, driving test or secured that job we went after.

Being turned down for a long-awaited promotion.

The purchase of a dream house has fallen through at the last minute.

These types of things can make you depressed.  It is an unpleasant feeling and the mood can affect others who live around you such as your partner, kids, work colleagues and friends.

How can you bring yourself back up and release the doom and gloom?

The answer is to build up your self-esteem and get back on the road to happier days!

Grab yourself some paper, a pen or pencil and write down the following:

  • Write down three positive personal qualities you have.
  • What three things have made you proud of yourself?
  • What three things have you achieved in your life?
  • What three things make you laugh?
  • What three things can you do or have done to help other people?
  • What are three things that can help you feel good about yourself?
  • What three things can you treat yourself to when you are feeling down; these should not include money, drinking alcohol to excess or over-eating.

When you have completed your list fill in the blank to the following:  “I realize that looking at what I have written I ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………..”

Gloomy feelings make you feel tired and uninterested in things you usually enjoy, and that can include your sex life.   Replace that with positive feelings and embrace the fabulous qualities you have.

Say goodbye to sad feelings and welcome the sunny days back into your life.

The Bliss of being Happy!
